I disagree with you about the meta tag optimizing I have used a meta tag generator on two different sites and both times it helped to increase my page rank from a 76% seo score to a 90% seo score on whois.sc

THe site I used to generate meta tags is seochat .com! What I think increase your rank better more heavily is posting on blogs. or forums and well anything.

Thank you for this series! I read through all 4 posts and can not prove you wrong!

It seems I have done similar research in my online quest. I have no "documented" proof to back you or my ideas up because I can remember my failures well enough! One day it just finally dawned on me! People are searching for information online.... if I do not have good information on my pages, even if I do get them there they will click away! (This made Google Adwords lots of money! I never did understand why anyone would want to put links on their pages to lure people AWAY just to make a few cents!)

I run a free SEO blog network and have preached the value of quality content and back links for over 2 years. Most people in the free blog arena just want to post what comes to mind and hope it gets seen. They get discouraged just as they are starting to climb and stop posting or quit completely.

I have used the spam bloggers to get quick traffic and back links. I have one suggestion for anyone using spamming, unreadable "keyword" content or any other way to "fool" the search engines.

A quick burst of almost unusable traffic is about all you will get. You had better be working on some quality content and real back links fast.

Over a 6 month time period of allowing the splogs (spam blogs, bot installed most of the time) my traffic jumped to over 40,0000 hits a day (at about the 3 month mark)then started to fall, but actual visitors stayed fairly steady in the hundreds (the real traffic).
I have sense rebuilt the blog network only allowing actual bloggers posting readable posts.... Hits have stayed lower, actual visitors have climbed from SERPs (the traffic goes up and down like you said, depending on many factors) and I have seen more commission checks from fewer adds on the main blog.

My rambling may not seem relevant, but using the same basic techniques you have stated has helped my online business.
I commend you for your awesome article series! Thank you for the moral support of letting me know I was not the only one thinking this way and the tips I had not thought of yet!
